Munich – United in the fight against coronavirus: The MAHLE RACING TEAM is not only doing battle for points and positions in the Digital Nürburgring Endurance Series powered by VCO, but is also fighting the spread of coronavirus in the real world. As part of the MAHLE Challenge, the team is donating protective masks to the #StayHomeAndSew campaign with support from Virtual Competition Organisation (VCO). The MAHLE RACING TEAM is donating 100 masks for every podium achieved so far at VCO events. VCO is also supporting the initiative, adding a further 100 hand-stitched masks to the total number being donated to social institutions.
The #StayHomeAndSew initiative is part of the German government’s #WirVsVirus campaign, aimed at supporting the country-wide distribution of face masks in Germany. The goal of the initiative is to provide care homes, aid organisations and other social institutions with much-needed masks. The masks will offer protection against COVID-19 for full-time and voluntary staff, as well as individuals at risk. Anybody interested can go to stayhomeandsew.de for precise instructions on how to sew the masks, while institutions can also register their requirements at the same place. Anyone who sews a mask can decide which institution they want to receive their face mask.
“In these difficult times, it is fantastic to see the level of commitment being shown by participants in Esports racing series supported by VCO,” said Florian Haasper, CEO Virtual Competition Organisation. “We were made aware of this campaign by the MAHLE initiative, and did not have to give it much consideration before we too decided to get involved. At times like this, it is important that the many helpers in the numerous social institutions are at the forefront of our minds. They are our everyday heroes and deserve a lot of recognition. Thank you to the MAHLE RACING TEAM for this fantastic initiative.”
“Our fans have contributed fantastically by sewing hundreds of masks. We are pleased that this allows us, together with VCO, to support the #StayHomeAndSew initiative and do our bit in the battle against the spread of coronavirus,” said Sebastian Goldbach, Motorsport & eSports Marketing at MAHLE. The MAHLE Challenge called upon the company’s social media followers to sew masks and make them available to #StayHomeAndSew. So far, several hundred masks have been made. After the MAHLE RACING TEAM took victory in round three of the DNLS powered by VCO in a car bearing the wording ‘MAHLE Challenge’, we decided that institutions in need should benefit from our success in Esports racing. For every podium the team has achieved in the VCO events so far, MAHLE is providing 100 face masks.
As well as victory in race three of the DNLS powered by VCO, MAHLE RACING TEAM drivers Agustin Canapino and Alex Arana have also finished on the podium in the remaining three races. The two drivers also finished runner-up in the iRacing 24h Nürburgring powered by VCO, alongside Sami-Matti Trogen and Dominik Staib in the #186 Audi R8 LMS. These five podiums and the donation from VCO takes the total number of masks donated to the #StayHomeAndSew initiative to 600.
