VCO CUP OF NATIONS: STAGE SET FOR THE BIG ESPORTS RACING WORLD CUP

  • VCO and Williams Esports launch unique country competition in aid of UNICEF.
  • 64 drivers from 16 countries will go head to head on 25th/26th July.
  • Haasper: “The VCO Cup of Nations is an exciting format that promises plenty of thrills and fantastic racing.”

Munich – Virtual Competition Organisation (VCO) and Williams Esports are exploring new horizons together: In the ‘VCO Cup of Nations for UNICEF, presented by Arconis’, 64 drivers from 16 countries will do battle for the Esports racing crown in an exciting tournament format. On 25th and 26th July 2020, the iRacing platform will be the arena for this unique battle of the countries. RaceSpot will host and broadcast the event. The top-three driver quartets will be rewarded with a total prize fund of £7,500.

Everyone taking part in the VCO Cup of Nations is being asked to make a voluntary donation to the child welfare organisation UNICEF when they register and to advertise the donation links on their social media channels during the Esports racing tournament thus supporting UNICEF’s work all over the world, especially in response to Covid-19. VCO and Williams Esports will set a good example by donating £2,500 to UNICEF.

In two ‘hot lap’ qualifying sessions, the four representatives of each of the 16 fastest countries will be decided. Then, on the first day of the tournament on 25th July, these teams will take each other on in groups of four. The ten most successful nations will remain in the competition on 26th July. Four of these will be eliminated in the semi-finals, before the final six teams will battle it out to be the overall winner over four races.

“The VCO Cup of Nations is an exciting format that promises plenty of thrills and fantastic racing,” said Florian Haasper, CEO Virtual Competition Organisation. “When national teams clash in sport it is always a special occasion. The same is true of Esports racing. We are really looking forward to launching this new type of tournament together with Williams Esports.”

Steven English, Head of Esports at Williams, said: “We are excited to bring this concept of an international tournament to sim racing. It’s something fresh and unique at a time when many people are missing the traditional excitement of supporting their country during a summer of sport. That we can also raise funds to support the incredible work UNICEF is doing around the world is an extra bonus. We are grateful to all the partners collaborating to host this special event and we hope it will bring enjoyment and entertainment for all those participating and watching the action.”

A total of ten different cars from road racing, oval racing and dirt racing will be in action in the VCO Cup of Nations. The races will be held on ten different iRacing tracks. The cars and circuits will be announced just a few days before the event. The competitors will only find out which virtual racing cars will be racing on which track on the morning of the event. This will prevent drivers from gaining an advantage through extensive testing before the tournament starts. Registration will be open for all interested Esports racing drivers next week.
